Inspiration, quotes, discussion.....This series of paintings evolved from my experiences with family & friends as they were being treated with mainstream medicine. Aspects of Healing:The focus of this work is primarily concerned with health and healing on both the mental and physical level; connecting with our deeper self and knowing that there is an inner place that is unbreakable and whole. The catalyst for this body of work came from my observation of the disillusionment experienced by family members and friends who had previously held an unquestioning belief in the infallible power of mainstream Western medicine. My own healing journey convinced me that there is often an alternative option waiting to be discovered. These paintings explore the polarity between dependence on others for our wellbeing and taking responsibility for one’s own health where applicable. The journey towards health and wholeness sometimes entails surrendering to the void in order to transcend limiting beliefs. This transformative process is often initiated through the exploration of other healing modalities that can appear in many diverse forms. These can range from entering the stillness of meditation, a first step to opening ourselves to the power of change, to more active forms that can involve dietary alteration, exercise, acupuncture, herbs and homoeopathy, to name but a few. What ever course we choose, the byword must be ‘DO NO HARM!’. Your comments appreciated click here
Water- Maidens: These are mythic beings in Hispanic folklore, diminutive figures with a star in their forehead, shimmering straw coloured bodies and golden locks. On the fingers of their right hand they wear white rings and on the left wrist a gold band with black stripes. Legend has it that yellow flowers spring up in their footprints, bringing happiness to the person who finds them. These endearing creatures exactly illustrate the functioning of symbolic mechanism: the antithesis of black and white reflects the theme of symbolic inversion; and gold is an emblem of power. In short, these water-maidens are endowed with the power to stir up and invert the order of things, bringing happiness to the wretched – that is, to everyone. (A Dictionary of Symbols, J.E. Cirlot) The Water Maiden is a metaphor for the people in our lives who support and heal us. |
